If you’re in the interim waiting period for private health cover benefits and would like to commence insulin pump therapy now, you may be eligible for Medtronic’s loan pump program.

Who is Eligible?
To be eligible, individuals must:
  • Have private health cover (minimum basic hospital cover)
  • Be in the interim 12-month waiting period for private health cover benefits
  • Be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
  • Meet the National Diabetes Support Scheme (NDSS) criteria for insulin pump consumables (www.ndss.com.au)
  • Be under supervision from a healthcare professional for pump therapy, e.g. endocrinologist or paediatrician
The Application Process

Those wishing to apply for a loan pump need to complete the application form, which also sets out the terms and conditions of the program. The form also requires signed acknowledgement from a clinician and a diabetes educator prior to submission.

Medtronic Loan Pumps

Successful applicants will have access to a Medtronic Paradigm™ insulin pump* for the remainder of their health fund waiting period (a maximum of 12 months).

Medtronic Diabetes will confirm with the applicant their details upon receipt of the completed form. Loan pumps will only be delivered to diabetes education centres or hospitals and patients will need to make contact with their respective centre to arrange training.

Upon completion of the health fund waiting period, the individual will be required to return the loan pump to Medtronic.
