Comfort for Every Body Because comfort while wearing an insulin pump is so important, Medtronic Diabetes offers a complete line of Sertable™ infusion sets for different sizes, shapes and types of people. Our designs reflect more than 20 years of customer feedback. We listened to what pump users wanted and then invented the features to meet those needs — which is why our infusion sets are so easy to use, convenient and comfortable to wear.

How infusion sets work
Thin, plastic tubing delivers insulin from the pump to your body. This tubing comes in two different lengths to accommodate different needs. At the end of the tubing is a soft, flexible cannula, which is a small, tapered tube. With the help of an insertion device, you insert the cannula under your skin, somewhere where you’d inject using a syringe — on your abdomen, thigh or buttocks. This spot is called your infusion site, and it remains in place for up to three days. No needle stays under your skin (except when using the Polyfin QR-Set™).

Features and Benefits Sertable™ insertion devices Because pump users wanted an easier way to insert the cannula under their skin, we invented Serters™, our exclusive, auto-insertion devices. Medtronic Diabetes Serter devices make inserting the cannula under your skin as easy as pressing a button. These tools also help ensure that you can quickly insert the cannula under your skin at a consistent depth, which helps promote more predictable absorption. Many pump users prefer using Medtronic Diabetes Serter devices compared to manual insertion because they’re simple and virtually pain-free.1

Disconnect options Inevitably, you need to change clothes or take a shower while wearing an insulin pump. We offer two ways to quickly and discreetly disconnect the pump and tubing from your body: At-site disconnect is when you disconnect the tubing at your infusion site. Just the adhesive, connection hub and cannula remain behind.   Away-from-body disconnect is a good option for people with reduced dexterity or vision. Rather than disconnect at your infusion site, you can disconnect away from your body where you can see and feel the tubing better. We offer a variety of ways to temporarily remove your insulin pump, including Quick Release away-from-body disconnect and an at-site disconnect.

Changing the insertion angle changes the cannula insertion depth. To make sure the infusion set delivers insulin properly and moves with your body, you have a choice of cannula lengths and angles. Your choice depends on your body type, because the cannula resides in the layer of body fat between the skin and muscle.

Extra lean: If you are very slender, you may opt for the variable-angle (35°) cannula available on the Silhouette® infusion set.   Lean: Inserted straight into the skin, the 6 mm cannula generally works well for lean individuals. Average to above-average weight: A 9 mm cannula usually is a good choice, inserted straight into the skin.

Adhesive choices
Most people wear our infusion sets using only the self-adhesive:² The infusion site has a slim, low profile, and there is no need to apply additional tape.

Infusion tubing
Reinforced tubing reduces the likelihood of kinks, so insulin delivery isn’t interrupted. We also test all our infusion sets using Medtronic Diabetes insulin pumps, so they’re designed to work together ³. You get the optimal performance for peace of mind when wearing the pump.
